Bettas are kept in those samll containers for money purposes. They fight, so they are kept apart. Please keep your fish friends in a tank with filtration. This helps regulate ammonia. Just because bettas can breathe water doesn't make them invicible to ammonia.

I breed bettas and the reason they only live 3 year or are thought of as disposable is because people keep them in small areas. They need at least five gallons to be healthy. I have one betta pushing 14 years. The only reason they are sold in tiny jars is business. The stores need to sell a high volume to make a profit; only being able to keep one in a tank cuts into the profit but the little jars can stack so the stores can stock a high volume. At the very least, give them one gallon.
