How Do I Create Humidity In An Aquarium For Exotic Pets?

i keep reading that humidity must be maintained in an aquarium occupied by an exotic animal (lizard, spider, etc.) question is, how do i do that exactly. i often read, spray water with a mist bottle into the aquarium, but to me that just sounds like moistening the substrate and getting the decorations wet. can someone help me with creating humidity? what am i doing wrong? i have a lid for the aquarium, but portions of it were removed because it was previously used for fish. i got aquarium from friend at work.

  1. a heat lamp. I had 2 bearded dragons, and spraying them with mist is only for their enjoyment really, it helps keep them hydrated and cool. As well as happy:) But all you need is one good heat lamp. Place it facing downward on the lid of your tank. But ask the ‘help’ when you go to the store to pick it up, about how hot it should be kept and what not. hope this helps

you can buy a humidity meter at most exotic pet shops but i have found that the best and easiest method is just to use a spray bottle
plus a bonus to using the bottle is that often reptiles (lizards especially) like to lick the water off the glass and anything else it lands on. My gecko runs to wherever i am spraying she loves it.
    good luck with your pet

you can use live plant’s that help’s alot and keeping the substrate moist help’s to it really depends on what type of pet you get do a little reaserch before you buy search the species of pet on google or yahoo and you will save your self a lot of head ache most care sheet’s have tip’s on how to keep humidity good (I have reptile carpet and i just pour a cup of water on it and spay the plant’s and stuff with a spray bottle and that keep’s my humidity right at 70 )
