How Much Aquarium Salt To Add To Betta Tank?

I have a 10 gallon tank with one betta, four mollies & two golden mystery snails. I have read that both bettas & mollies like a small amount of aquarium salt in their water. Will this also agree with the snails?
If so, how much salt do I add?

Your Mollies and Bettas would appreciate a bit of salt, however your snails will not. Leave it out. It’s not necessary.

you don’t HAVE to add salt but it does help a lot in coating their gils and fins. usually it says on the box of salt how much per gallon to use (usually 1 tablespoon for every 5 gallons).

  3. I’ve had alot of bettas but i’ve never put any salt in the water and they lived nice long lives.

Bettas do not require salt. Snails can be killed by it (but then, I think this depends on the kind of snail – I don’t really know much about snails, but I’ve had many bettas). I suggest leaving it out. The only time you should really expose your betta to salt is if it is ill and you have isolated it into a small container for a short period of time, at which point adding a small amount of salt will help them heal. I’ve had bettas live up to four or five years (they finally died when I left for the holidays and left them in the care of my mother) and only once exposed any of them to salt.

I have read 1 teaspoon per gallon. But since you have snails you could do one teaspoon per 5 gallons.
