i just bought a 10 gal aquarium and the filter is very noisy. i was wondering if it would be fine to turn it off at night and keep it running during the day.

NO2 levels
GH levels
KH levels
pH levels

I just bought a new fish tank that I'm filling with freshwater fish tomorrow, but I need to know if its absolutely necessary to have a canister of aquarium salt in there. Petco does it. I've never seen it done before so what, if any, are the benefits?

I recently purchased an aquarium from somebody that was using it as a saltwater aquarium. It is very dirty and has salt caked all over it. I need to clean off all the algae and salt. Do I just use water and a scrubber or is there more to it? I read somewhere to use vinegar, anyone ever heard of this? Also what is a protein scimmer? The tank came with all types of stuff that I'm not familiar with. Can I keep any of the decor that was in the tank if I rinse it off? Thanks for any advice you can give.

I have an established freshwater aquarium. When I do water changes, I want to be frugal and use the water to water my plants. Is this a good idea?
The old aquarium water has nitrates and some nitrites and is Ph balanced. There is also some diluted salts in it.

I'd like to go to my local craft store & perhaps find one of those little buildings that you paint yourself. But I don't know what aquarium ornaments are made from. Also, if I were to find the right item made from the right material, what kind of craft paint would be safe to paint them with? The ones we buy have to be painted with something. Any information is appreciated. Thanks!
