I purchased this heater for a seven gallon tank that I have in my kitchen., and have been using it for about six months. I wanted a heater of good quality, that was also reliable, but more importantly, that my kids could handle without me having to worry about it breaking and causing injuries due to cuts or electric shock. In short, this discarded glass models.

The Stealth Heater does what I need and more.

    * Shatter-proof — no worries about dropping it or breaking from mis-handing

    * Fully submersible — mine is completely under water except for the knob for easy access

    * Black color does not call attention to itself, nor there are any signs of electronics to ugly your beautiful fish environment

    * Internet research (opinions in forums and reviews) found the company to be well established and trustworthy.

I am very happy with the purchase and will continue to use this and stronger models as I setup other aquariums for myself, family, and friends. Definitely Recommended.

I got the 50W heater for my 15-gallon tall aquarium. It’s small, unobtrusive, fully submersible, and accurate. My aquarium has stayed at a constant 78 degrees ever since I set it up.

purchased this heater after returning my Ebo-Jager heater since it arrived defective (would never stop heating). First thing I noticed was that the temperature dial on the heater corresponds almost exactly to what my tank temperature is. So they are doing something right. Will find out how it works over the next few months.

This heater does exactly what you ask it to, and it is smaller than many heaters so it doesn’t take up a lot of space n the tank. The adjustable temp is great! My hatchling turtle needed the water a bit warmer to kick a respitory infection, and all I had to do was dial it up. He hung on that heater until he was all better. So I am very happy with my purchase of this heater, and the price was so much less than at the retal stores.

My only complaint is that it comes with NO INSTRUCTIONS. When I first plugged it in and it barely seemed to be working at all, I had to call the company (by looking up their number online) and speak to a rep. He was very helpful, and simply explained that I needed to put it closer to the filter intake, but it be great if they packaged such wisdom along with their product.

I use this in our 6 gallon tank. It was easy to set up and works quite well. The water stays steady at about 1 degree below where I set the thermometer.

I purchased two Marineland Stealth heaters (Stealth 250 and Stealth 150), one for each of my freshwater tanks. While filling my tank, I had one hand in the water and one on the water pipe that was connected to the filling hose. I got a shock that nearly knocked me off the chair I was standing on. I unplugged the heater and plugged in the second one. It did exactly the same thing. I took the heaters to the kitchen sink, (different sink, different power feed) where I immersed them one at a time in the sink. I dropped one of the leads of a voltmeter in the water and touched the other to the sink faucet. In both heaters the voltage measured was between 28 and 35 VAC.

These heaters are UL approved, meaning that one of their characteristics is that they don’t leak enough to kill you. However, small shocks are surprising, and can cause unintended consequences, like falling down, etc.

I likewise tested another glass tube fully submersible heater made by a different company and it does the same thing. It measured over 40 volts.

I think that the leakage current is not lethal, but will shock you. ANY submersible heater should be unplugged before you reach inside the tank for maintenance. Anything submersible in your aquarium should be unplugged before reaching into the water.

Standing on a dry carpet or floor without touching anything else will probably prevent a shock. If your installation is like mine, with a sink nearby, BEWARE! Don’t EVER touch the water and the sink at the same time. This safety procedure should be used when servicing your filter pumps, lamps etc. With salt water aquariums, the problem could be even more of a problem. UNPLUG BEFORE GOING INTO THE WATER!

The company is investigating this problem and as they report, I will repost the results.

I bought this heater after some research into different brands and types of heaters. I purchased the 50-watt for my 10 gallon tank.

It works very well, with the temperature staying unfailingly constant… if you set the temperature on the higher end of the number (see there’s some gaps between the numbers) then the temperature will be higher than the actual number. Same goes if you set the temperature lower.

It is fully submersible, and can be suction-cupped to the wall of your aquarium in any direction you’d like with two suction cups. I keep mine with the temperature knob above the water, and it does great.

Putting the heater next to the filter so that the warm water may be distributed throughout the tank is a good idea.

After reading the review regarding being shocked by the heater, I was a bit worried. However, when I stuck my hand in the tank with the heater on, nothing happened. Very glad for that!

I purchased this a month ago, and it has been true to its guarantee. I highly recommend it!

Had the stealth heater for 8 months and 6 hours after a feeding I found all my fish dead and the water temp was 100 degrees. The thermostat feature probably stuck on and cooked em’. I hadn’t adjusted it since I first set it up. Watch out!

Got this for my kids 5 gallon tank. Have not had it for long so can’t rate how reliable it is. But it seems solidly built. I would recommend getting this heater over the glass tube ones. If you have experience with aquarium heaters before then you would understand why. If not, then this is why. They will break if you bump it, or if you forget to turn it off and there is a dramatic temperature change while you are draining the tank or adding water. With this heater they recommend that you turn it off and let cool down also to avoid damaging the circuits, but it will not shatter. But this one is more forgiving because it can probably take a licking and still be okay even if you forget. But as for the glass tube. Forget it. No room for error, guaranteed to shatter and you will be cleaning the whole tank and replacing your gravel. The tubes are more fragile than a light bulb.

The other benefits of this heater is that it has a marked adjustable temperature setting on it that is accurate. It is also submersible if you don’t want it hanging on the side of your tank so you can place it where it is most efficient or more asthetic. Not recomended to be buried though. The red-green lighted switch is great if you don’t have a thermostat. You know when the water is heated properly. But one should have at least a cheapo thermostat as insurance. Cheaper than buying new fish:)

I have had this for several months. At first, it worked fine, but now, according to my aquarium thermometer, it ranges anywhere from 68 to 80 degrees over the course of a couple of days. Forutnately I have a hardy type of fish. I’m getting another one before it kills them though.
